This page investigates our wide variety of artists in which the neglect collection is inspired by. The work depicts numerous mediums and styles throughout.

Gemma Gunning

The work of Gemma Gunning specialises in etching as she celebrates the beauty  of abandoned buildings situated in Bristol. The use of etching in her work is the perfect medium  due to the enforced decay process behind it.  This can often translate the damaged state of the many neglected builds. It also has an emphasis on the strong forms and stucture's of the building through its harsh lines. This is in a element in which we also investigate within our own neglect collection.

Gunning also presents the techniques she creates the detailed images in by imagining the lost narratives and inhabitiants of the build in that many of our artists feature in there work. This is evident through the idea of considering the subjects that people would normally just walk straight past and ignore.

Soden's approach to the work directs the viewer to explore the time and memory of the builds. The compositions features derelict school buildings to power stations in various stages of there day. Similar to our artists the results of Soden's work is striking and presents a contemporary aesthetic.

Matteo Massagrande

Massagrande depicts a range of hauntingly photorealistic paintings of abandoned buildings using oil paints. He creates varying states of the deterioration to through use of light, colour palette and a cinematic experience.

He blends 19th century Italian Realism with contemporary photo realism to suggest the presence of previous inhabitants.

The Gallery is inspired by much of Massagrande's work due to his use of light within his compositions. This is evident through his creation of an eerie light form portraying the disregarded forms.
